Artist statement
Art is my way of expressing and exploring what I can’t say with words. A strong motif in my work is the expression of emotion in portraits and figures. This motif comes from how my art helps me work through my emotions. My work shows exaggerated versions of whatever emotional state I am in. Each work is very personal to me and my emotions and has helped me work through many of my feelings and almost acted as a type of therapy. In General, my work has to do with what is going on in my life or what is on my mind frequently when making them.
In my process, I use colors that will complement/contrast each other. The materials I collage with are a mix of high-flow acrylics on duralar paper, acrylic on paper, and materials relating to the theme of that work. Whatever materials I am using, I cut them out to collage them into the scene I’m constructing. I use ink to outline my collage with expressive, illustrative lines. The stylization in my work has grown out of the sketches I do in my sketchbook.
I hope to have work that is interesting to look at and find different details that I have put into it. A lot of my work has horror elements in them which has come from my interest in the behind the scenes work that goes into horror movies. 3/7/25
